In conclusion, the Author has now to return his best thanks to the friendly correspondents, clerical and others, whose names appear from time to time in course of the work, for the prompt and courteous assistance they have afforded him in prosecuting his researches; and to explain (l) that the maps have been constructed by himself, partly from the Ordnance Survey and partly from a careful personal examination of the ground; that the various woodcuts representing scenes or objects, have all been made from sketches taken on the spot, except where otherwise stated; and that the whole were transferred to wood with the utmost accuracy for the engraver, under the Author's im mediate inspection, by a member of his own famil.
